Dear York Wheelchair Services

“I was trying to get my first wheelchair from them and apparently I didn't qualify for one that I could use or that fit me. They even brought out the ones that I could use, in a very 'this is what you could have won' way.”

Yellow and blue stepping stone shapes describe a conversation. Blue: Hi! I need a wheelchair please. Yellow: Ok, can you walk? B: yes. but not easily. please can it be lightweight and well-fitting? Y: so, you can walk. B: …yes. Y: …so you could just not do too much? B: …well Y: could you do more if you had a wheelchair? B: yes! that would be great! Y: but you don’t do most things? B: no. that’s why I need a wheelchair please. Y: ah! lightweight wheelchairs are for active people who can’t walk at all. you can have this heavy wheelchair. you won’t be able to push it and it will give you back problems. B: ummm…thanks
